How much I made selling furniture during a pandemic.

Context

I started my first sales job on January 20th 2020, I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 15 and I just turned 22. I didn't go to college and have never worked a commission only job so I was a little nervous about it, my mom even told me to not to do it she was more nervous than me since I wouldn't make any money if I didn't make any sales. I decided to keep my restaurant job 2 days a week just in case I sucked at selling furniture. So I worked 7 days a week for 8 months with the occasional day off.

Pay structure

For every sale I made I would only receive 5% of it and if I sold warranty I would get 15% off the warranty, so for every 2000 dollars of furniture I sold I would make about $125 before taxes. I also get paid biweekly. I aimed to get about 30k-40k in sales to get a decent paycheck of about $1,600-$2,200

First big paycheck

I wasn't too confident in the furniture game until I got my first big paycheck during tax refund season around march, the total paycheck amount before taxes was around $3,700!! at the time I couldn't believe how much I had got paid, the biggest paycheck I ever received in the restaurant industry was probably around $1400 for 2 weeks. After that pay day I was confident I could make a decent amount selling furniture, I even contemplated quitting my restaurant gig, but I couldn't make myself do it.

Current numbers

As of November 23rd 2020 I’ve made about $52,000 before taxes from selling furniture, keep in mind I didn't work the whole month of April because of the pandemic, I probably would've made about $5,000 that month. I’m estimating to finish the year with about $60k from the furniture store only and about $15k from the restaurant side job so about $75k for 2020.

Side Note

This article is not to flex or anything just seeing if people were interested in seeing commission numbers. I only made about $30k in 2019 so for me this is a huge increase in income and maybe a way to motivate others to try something new I never thought I would be selling furniture so if you’re tired of your current job or wanna try something new go for it! The worse thing that can happen is you fail and go back to your regular job.
